13 ANNUAL MOTHERS' DAY BENEFIT AT THE SKIPPERDOME

 

 Area musicians will present a benefit concert Sunday, May 11, 5-9 pm,

to bring attention to the problem of domestic violence. The event

began in 1996, and is held each Mother’s Day at Skipper’s

Smokehouse in Tampa. The monies raised are donated to

area domestic violence agencies. All of the performances are

donated, and volunteers from five areas shelters organize and

oversee the program, with an emphasis on fun and empowerment.

Blues and soul dance classics will be performed by

vocalists Denise Moore, Nancy Johnson, and Sheila Miranda,

Guitarists Tammy Hatch and

Patty Sanphy will play with Linda Faust on keys, and

Sandi Ross on bass. Dennis McCarthy, drums, and George

Pappas, blues harp, will round out the show. There will be

musical guests of both genders throughout the evening, including

Karen Benjey, George Allgaier, Anne Van Atta, and Joey Donovan.

The evening will begin with a special appearance by

Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues.

The agencies which will benefit are CASA in St. Petersburg, The

Haven in Clearwater, The Spring in Tampa, Sunrise of East Pasco,

and the Salvation Army DV Program of West Pasco. All will have

volunteers on hand to help the community learn about the services

they provide.
