TAKE BACK THE NIGHT
A WOMEN'S BLUES REVUE
14th ANNUAL MOTHERS' DAY
BENEFIT AT THE SKIPPERDOME
Area
musicians will present a benefit concert Sunday, May 10, 5-9 pm, to bring
attention to the problem of domestic violence. The event began in 1996, and is
held each Mother’s Day at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa. The monies raised are
donated to area domestic violence agencies. All of the performances are
donated, and volunteers from five areas shelters organize and oversee the
program, with an emphasis on fun and empowerment. Blues and soul dance classics
will be performed by vocalists Denise Moore and Nancy Johnson. Guitarist
Patty Sanphy will play with Laura Lee on keys, and Sandy Ross on bass. Drummer
Jungle Denny McCarthy will round up the rhythm section. The horn section has
Diana Belcher on sax and Colleen Chrien on trombone. There will also be
musical guests of both genders throughout the evening, with a special appearance
by Sugar and Spice. Musical guests include George Pappas, blues harp, Linda
Faust, keys, Anne VanAtta, bass, and Tammy Hatch on slide guitar. Appearing for
the first time are the Southside Horns, featured on the last set with the
